I have an...unusual (I was going to say unhealthy, but I actually don't think it's unhealthy) obsession with my shed.
I can't explain it. I just love the little building, which is tucked away in the back corner of my yard.
It is situated in the shade of a towering oak tree, and it is surrounded by a wooden deck. It gives me the perfect opportunity to decorate with a little bit of a junky chic style. The hanging bird feeder keeps the birds and squirrels (mostly the squirrels) fed, and the rest of the seed- for this feeder and the others scattered around the yard- is stored in the rodent-proof galvanized steel trash can.
To the left of the double doors sit these two little chairs. I saved them from the trash pile and gave them a fresh new look with a couple coats of spray paint last summer. No one ever sits there, but I still think it's cute. Meh, maybe I'll start sitting in them!
Let's check out the inside, shall we? Double doors allow plenty of clearance for a lawn tractor. Of course, I have no lawn tractor, but a girl can dream, can't she?
Inside and to the left is a nice, long workbench. I find myself storing most of my tools in the basement, but really there is a ton of room out here, too. Maybe I'll reconsider. The former owners set me up with plenty of peg board and storage shelves. And, see that shop light up there? I put that in just a couple days ago. Before, there were some sub-par spotlight thingies, but this is much better. 12 bucks for the light and another several for the bulbs, and I'm left scratching my head wondering why I didn't put the light in long ago.

To the right of the door is lawnmower and bicycle parking.
There are plenty of storage shelves. We are far from filled to capacity.
And, thanks to the karosene heater, I can work out here year round. Notice there is also a window (wall) air conditioning unit, also left by the former owner. Methinks he used the shed for some, ahem, time away from his lovely wife.
Back behind where the lawnmowers and bikes are parked is another set of double doors. We don't use them too often, but they provide a great place above which to hang my favorite barn star.
As I was working out in the yard this afternoon, I found this old rusty half broken bird house and thought it would be perfect to hang on the shed (see what I mean about junky chic?).
I think it's the perfect addition!
Next up: window boxes!
So, what do you think? Is my shed obsession unhealthy or just unusual?
xo,
Emily

I think your shed is just wonderful and I love that you have it and what you have done with it. A perfect (ahem) "hideaway". xo Diana
