Funky, free dresser goes turquoise

One Saturday morning over the summer, as I was minding my own business on my way to the dump with a car full of trash, I was shocked to see a beautiful vintage 50s chest of drawers just sitting on the side of the road with a FREE sign.  I did what any good thrifter/lover of all things free/frugal fanny would do and immediately pulled over.  I wasn't necessarily looking for a new dresser, but I mean can you really have too many dressers?  Before I knew it, I had knocked on the door and the homeowner was helping me load this mid-century beauty into my car.

Structurally, the dresser was in perfect condition.  Cosmetically, it was decent.  I used for several months without doing anything to it before it spoke to me.  When it finally did speak to me, it begged me to make it turquoise.  And, who am I to deny a 60 year old dresser of its last wish?!

So, this past weekend, I removed the drawers and gave everything a good wipe down, a coat of primer and 2 coats of Lagoon by Behr in semigloss.  The paint color actually goes quite well with the funky attitude of the dresser.  It is just what I was going for.

She now has a place of prominence in my office/craft room and holds my fabric and sewing machine accessories.  Basically, we love each other.  Not bad for free, huh?

xo,

Emily

PS-  I don't know if you can tell, but I left the legs natural.  Does anyone have any thoughts on that?  I'm not sold on it just yet...

  3. Oh Emily, how did I miss this? It's fabulous! It's such a cool piece and it was free to boot - lucky you! And I love going bold with color and the legs are unexpected, which is always fun! NIcely done!
